How Tuesday nights work
Lessons run in blocks through the evening. Each one starts with the instructor walking the room through a dance slowly, without music — the count, the direction, where your feet go on each beat. Then it goes to music, and then you run it a few times until it sticks.
Because one ticket covers every remaining lesson that night, you are not paying per dance. Turn up for the first one and stay for all of them, or arrive later and catch what is left. The dances build on each other but each one is taught from scratch, so arriving late is not a problem.
We are open until 10pm on Tuesdays, the latest we run all week.
If you have never done this before
Line dancing is danced in rows, not pairs. Coming alone is completely normal and nobody is counting.
Every dance is broken down step by step before it goes to music. Beginners are the point, not an afterthought.
A country dance night without drinking. It is why this works for all ages and for people who would rather skip the bar scene.
Wear something you can move in. Shoes with a smooth sole work best — boots if you have them, trainers if you do not. The one thing to know: if you are also throwing axes that night, closed-toe shoes are required for the throwing part, with no exceptions.

The combo is the one most people take. You get the dance lessons plus half an hour on an axe throwing lane for $25 total, which is less than booking the two separately.

Do I need a partner for line dancing?
No. Line dancing is danced in rows rather than in pairs, so nobody needs a partner. Plenty of people come on their own and it is completely normal.

The dance floor is open to all ages. Axe throwing is 13 and over, so if you are adding a throwing session that limit applies to the throwing part only.
Do you serve alcohol at line dance nights?
No. Chopscape is an alcohol-free venue. It is a country dance night without a bar, which is part of why it works for all ages and for people who would rather not be around drinking.
Can I come and watch instead of dancing?
Yes. Nobody is going to drag you onto the floor. Plenty of people watch the first lesson before joining the second.
