What a session is actually like

You arrive, sign the waiver on a tablet at the front, and staff walk you to your lane. Before anyone throws, you get a safety briefing: how to hold the axe, where to stand, when it is safe to step forward and collect. It takes a few minutes and it is not optional.

You also get a printed scoring guide. It covers how the rings on the board are read and how a standard competition game is structured, so a group can keep score properly instead of just chucking axes at wood. Staff stay on the floor for the whole session — they are not trained coaches, but if the axe keeps bouncing off the board, ask and someone will give you a pointer.

After that the lane is yours for the hour. One lane fits four throwers comfortably, and most groups fall into a rhythm of taking turns and keeping score within about ten minutes.

Axe throwing prices

Priced per thrower, not per lane. One lane holds up to four throwers for 60 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need experience to throw axes?

No. Every session starts with a safety briefing, and we give you a scoring guide covering how the board is read and how competition throwing works. Staff are on the floor throughout, so ask if you want a pointer. Most people stick a bullseye in their first session.

How much is axe throwing in Oceanside?

$25 per thrower Tuesday to Wednesday and $30 per thrower Thursday to Sunday. One lane holds up to four throwers for 60 minutes. There is no separate lane fee and no membership.

How old do you have to be to throw?

Throwers must be 13 or older. Anyone under 18 throws with a parent or guardian present, and that adult signs the waiver on their behalf.

What should I wear for axe throwing?

Closed-toe shoes are required, with no exceptions, and we cannot make one for you at the door. Otherwise wear whatever you can move in. Long shorts or trousers are more comfortable than a skirt.

Can I just walk in, or do I need to book?

Walk-ins are welcome whenever a lane is free, but weekends fill up. Booking online takes about a minute and guarantees you a lane at the time you want.

How long does a session last?

Sixty minutes on the lane. Add about ten minutes on top for the waiver and the safety briefing, so plan for roughly an hour and a quarter door to door.

Is there parking at Chopscape?

Yes, free parking on site at 1906 Oceanside Blvd. You do not need to pay a meter or find street parking.

Do you serve alcohol?

No. Chopscape is an alcohol-free venue. Alcohol may not be brought onto or consumed anywhere on the premises, and we cannot let anyone throw who appears to be under the influence.

Ready to throw?

Pick a time, pick a lane, and we will take care of the rest. Booking takes about a minute.
